Print businesses continue to pursue online business models to help them reach new audiences, more effectively support existing customers, and optimize their printing workflows. Whether a print service provider is offering virtual proofing services, customized business-to-business storefronts, or retail print ordering, technology and the needs of customers continue to accelerate. Customers not only want to interface with companies via a website or through traditional customer service channels, they increasingly want mobile access to information and interaction via social networks. Service providers are responding by optimizing their sites for the mobile world and expanding their reach through social media, but there is still room for improvement. From December of 2011 through January of 2012, InfoTrends, in partnership with the North American Publishing Company (NAPCO), surveyed 181 print service providers on their use of web technology and mobile production capabilities within their print business. The results from this survey provide insight regarding how web and mobile technologies are being utilized in print production environments and the opportunities that they provide for print businesses. |
