Description

In 2012, InfoTrends reviewed over 75 mobile printing solutions, including solutions from OEM vendors, independent software vendors (ISVs), and Internet companies (such as Google). These solutions fell into a number of categories, including mobile apps, server-based solutions, and cloud-based solutions; they had a variety of price points (ranging from free to hundreds of dollars) as well as wide range of functionality.

Following the review, InfoTrends concluded that while numerous solutions are available, many were not sufficiently straightforward and often lacked functionality users would likely require. In addition, they were often far from intuitive to use - particularly across mobile device platforms. Consequently, InfoTrends encouraged vendors to simplify and standardize mobile print technology as a means to encourage greater user adoption as a matter of urgency. Given the declines witnessed in overall consumer and office print volumes, InfoTrends believes that mobile printing has a role to play in offsetting lost pages but this will only happen if printing from mobile devices is adopted more widely.
This report provides an overview of mobile printing advancements that have taken place over the last year, as well as highlights areas where InfoTrends believes there is further scope to improve upon offerings.
