| A recent inquiry centered upon comparing the pages created by copiers and printers. To provide a comprehensive overview, we have also included prints from fax machines, duplicators, direct-to-press devices, and typewriters. Copiers, printers, and fax devices include single-function as well as multifunctional equipment. Printer technologies include impact printers (dot matrix, daisy wheel, and line) and non-impact printers (inkjet, laser, and thermal transfer). Although all fax devices essentially produce single-sided prints, various imaging technologies include direct thermal, inkjet, laser, LED, and thermal transfer. Since many current imaging equipment models offer duplexing, our data was considered in terms of prints produced and pages consumed. Prints are always single-sided (meaning that the image is produced on only one side of a sheet), but pages can be printed on both sides (producing two prints on a single page). The number of prints is always larger than the number of pages except in the case of impact technology, where a single strike on a ribbon can produce several prints on a multi-part form.
